Are you for real?

In completely unrelated news, USC lost to Oregon State 27-21 last night.
I am glad that USC lost, not because I really dislike them, but that when one team is good in an otherwise mediocre conference, it allows that team to float at the top of the polls and can end up either tying for the BCS championship or getting blown away in stellar fashion by an outmatched opponent in the BCS Championship game. Either way, it is an unfortunate and unsettling occurrence. I would rather all conferences have a championship game, but until then I will just have to whine.
Why, you may ask?

Coming from one of the red states, and living in a blue state, you may think that “they” rubbed off on me. Actually, that couldn’t be farther from the truth: actually common sense prevails and I have a good candidate in Obama. After reading about leadership qualities in my last class, I have to admit that Obama has better leader characteristics than McCain. On that basis alone, I would vote for Obama…even if his politics were in opposition to mine on every issue. Why?
1) Other countries like Obama…a lot. Our foreign policy under Bush has been one for the toilet. And that is regardless of which direction the Coriolis force swirls it.
2) He doesn’t let people buy his vote. I dig that. Even if it turns out to not be true, it is nice to at least pretend for a bit.
3) Democrats are better for the economy. Don’t believe me? Check this out. So you think this has a bias, then check out the numbers…here. See what I mean?
I didn’t like the last two Democratic candidates, or maybe I would’ve had a favorable option. I don’t know if they would’ve done better or not. They probably wouldn’t have gotten us involved in the last two wars, though. I am just thankful that we FINALLY will have a leader.
Large Hadron Collider (LHC)

I knew in a very high-level sense what it did, but I didn’t know some of the specifics. This is an interesting video, and it is made more credible by having some British guy narrating it.
And here are some jokes on Fark about the LHC.
21 Months?

I saw this made news again, but it had been so long since I saw the original story I almost forgot about it. It is sad that they made an example of that tree. No, not really. I’m sure it will make someone a nice floor.
George Washington’s Birthplace National Park
Sep 8th
As I am a big history nerd, I have passed the sign off of 301 to go to George Washington’s Birthplace at least 2 dozen times and every time wanted to go see it. Antonella is not as big of a history nerd as I am, so I have to find angles. I loaded up the web site and saw there were a bunch of farm animals. I used this as a selling point, but there weren’t a whole lot of them to be found. We never saw the chickens or the turkeys, didn’t see the ox, and the horse and sheep were too far away to really enjoy. We did see the pigs, though.
All in all, the grounds are very beautiful. There is a picnic area and a beachfront, and lots of open space for a toddler to run. All in all, it was quite enjoyable…and I can cross it off my list of things to see.
